FaceBook Groups

Hey! FaceBook is overhauling its group feature entirely. The new group feature will cover all the aspects of social networking. Communicating with different groups, context of the messages and privacy of our data everything has been taken care of.  Here is the walk through of important features.

         - Create many groups and set it Open, Closed or Secret (As you like it).
         - Name your groups and recognize them easily with assigning an icon to it (I like this!)
         - Each group will have an email address.
         - Upload group profile picture and let your friends post on the wall.
         - The new feature FaceBook introduced is to create a Doc and anyone in the group can edit. (That’s cool)
         - Finally it has Groups chat.

In a nutshell this new Group feature will help you in

   1. Creating multiple groups and categorizing your friends. E.g. I can have one group for my family, one    for my close friends and one for office workers. So easy to manage now!
    2. With bulk live feed read the latest updates of your friends.
    3. There is a context of messages you read and write in a group. (Right On Spot)

Lastly, our genuine concerns about the privacy of our information and FaceBook addresses it quite successfully in two ways

1.  “Download My Information” – This will help you download all your personal data like pictures, videos from the FaceBook’s servers.
2.  Monitor Apps that use your information – FaceBook will launch a new dashboard for this. While you add new apps the new dashboard will allow you to see what apps are actually doing with your data.

MyTake:  First of all let me apologize for this long story about FaceBook groups. I could not resist myself from mentioning all the new features that it has. I think FaceBook’s group feature is going to annihilate many websites. With so many features under one platform users will be reluctant to use websites like AOL (AIM service), Google (Google wave), Yammer etc.  From Now On Zuckerberg Must Be Careful As He Is Going To Make Many Enemies!

FaceBook Rolls On

FaceBook’s new patent can endanger location based service FourSquare. FaceBook would like to beat competition and integrate other location based services in the future with this new weapon. Moreover, if FaceBook goes aggressive then FourSquare will cease to exist.

MyTake:  FourSquare was working on location based service even before the FaceBook came into existence. This is hilarious, how FaceBook can come from behind and destroy the Foursquare’s core business?

TWITTER

Twitter has made substantial change to its search backend. The new search architecture will make the index bigger without making the searches slower. We know that Twitter also sends data to Google and Bing and want to move closer to them.

MyTake: There are 1000 tweets send per second and 12,000 queries per second (1 billion per day queries) on Twitter; this is enough to understand that the Twitter is still relevant and hence monetizing it‘s search backend.
